Sequence

The Agricultural and Rural  Centre recognise that our pupil’s benefit from learning outside of the classroom.  Our outdoor pursuit programme is designed to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of our pupils.   All pupils are encouraged to participate fully in our timetabled activities that take place across the community. PE is taught, where possible,  in line with the national curriculum and qualification syllabus.   Our sequence also takes into account seasonal sports.

 

General Information

The Agricultural and Rural  Centre  has access to a sport specialist teacher who is qualified up to Masters degree level.   Our pupil’s use the various locations, including the health centre next door  for the majority of our physical education lessons.  

Pupils also go to The Mahdlo Centre which has a 3G Astro turf pitch, a sports hall with 4 badminton courts which also accommodates team sports and a fully equipped gym, 2 running machines, cross trainers, weight machines and other suitable equipment.  Mahdlo also has social area’s, sensory rooms and theory classrooms.

The Agricultural and Rural  Centre also offers Key Stage 3 pupils 1:1 swimming lessons with qualified instructor.

All of our pupils get the opportunity to have horse riding lessons at Hyde riding Centre, outdoor pursuits, archery and canoeing at Grip Adventure.   Pupils may also do orienteering, canoeing, golf and rock climbing and even get to have even got the opportunity to have private boxing lessons with Ricky Hatton’s (ex World heavyweight boxing champion) team.

​​The Curriculum​

Key Stage 3

Pupils in Years 7, 8 & 9 have up to four hours of PE a week, including one hour of swimming. Pupils are formally assessed through teacher and instructor assessment criteria at the end of each unit of work.

Key Stage 4 & 5

Pupils in Years 10 & 11 receive three hours of  lessons per week, including theory.  Pupils work to the OCR GCSE Physical Education syllabus and can gain GCSE or OCR Entry Level qualification depending on ability. 

All pupils get to take part in outdoor pursuits at venues across Greater Manchester throughout the year, in line with our Outdoor Pursuit programme.

 

Extended Curriculum

After Centre Clubs

Pupils take part in outside activities that are arranged with our care providers and community activity partners, for example some pupils take part in weekend horse shows and equestrian clubs with the Agricultural and Rural Centre CIC.     Pupils are encouraged to join clubs outside of Centre and the Centre arrange pupil membership for Links4life to facilitate this.
